ST MICHAEL-IN-THE-HAMLET CHURCH & HERITAGE CENTRE
St Michael-in-the-Hamlet Church is in Aigburth, Liverpool, Merseyside, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is one of the three churches in Liverpool built by John Cragg, who used many components in cast iron which were made at his Mersey Iron Foundry. It is an active Anglican parish church in the Diocese of Liverpool, the Liverpool archdeaconry, and the Toxteth & Wavertree deanery.
HERITAGE OPEN DAYS
Every September St Michael-in-the-Hamlet Church participates in the National Heritage Open Days festival - England's contribution to the European Heritage Days and the country's largest heritage festival.
ECO CHURCH SILVER
St Michael-in-the-Hamlet Church has recently received an Eco Church Silver award.
Eco Church is an award scheme for churches who take the environment seriously and want to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God’s earth. There are currently over 25 Eco Church awarded churches in the diocese of Liverpool and more than 70 churches have already registered.
COMMUNITY CONSULTATION 2023
During the summer of 2022 a survey was carried out (by Ian Simpson, Heritage & Conservation) in order to learn about what various stakeholder groups concerned with St. Michael’s Church think about the building, its heritage, how it can be developed and what sort of uses can be found for it in addition to its primary function as a Place of Worship and in keeping with its status as a Grade I Listed Building. INTERACTIVE HERITAGE DOCUMENT
Our interactive heritage document has been designed specifically to help educate you about the significance of St. Michael-in-the-Hamlet Church.
The document includes detailed information from a number of contributors including our specialist conservation architects, ‘Finlason Partnership’ and stone and slate specialist, Terry Hughes. Contained within the document, is a range of video footage along with other unpublished photographs through various stages of restoration/repair, computer model extracts and other insightful information.
You are encouraged to navigate and interact with the document, along the way, learning about the churches history, its significance within the global construction industry and also the restoration works being done to ensure the building remains for generations to come.

We have been assisted in this by our architects, Finlason Partnership, and by the Anglican Diocese of Liverpool, of which we are part. We are grateful for funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund, National Churches Trust, All Churches Trust, Garfield Western Foundation, and also for gifts received individually and anonymously.
Entrance to St Michael’s is free however donations are always welcome. The preservation, protection and improvement of St Michael’s is a continuing financial challenge.
